STL DPB's Fifth Anniversary

.
Carolyn and Bob, by Jilly

This is a daily photo blog and I take it seriously. I can't remember the last time I missed a post but it happened yesterday. After returning from Costa Rica and going back to work I've felt like the coyote in the road runner cartoons - you know, with the 1 ton weight dropped on him. Home from work pretty late yesterday. Carolyn was out and left me some dinner. I pushed it around my plate on the kitchen counter while watching the left wing rant channel on cable (about all I look at when it's not baseball season), then picked up the kitchen. (She cooks, I clean.) After that, up to my desk to write a post. Carolyn found me around midnight fast asleep in my chair, chin drooping down on my chest.

What a way to mark the end of a cycle. St. Louis Daily Photo first waived at the world on March 22, 2007. This is its 1,825th post. Usually I do some silly Photoshop paste-up for these occasions but there's no way I had time this week. So, instead, I'm using a photo about the delights of City Daily Photo. This is a picture of me and my wife of almost 38 years, my best friend, taken last August in Menton, France. It was shot by our dear friend and CDP colleague Jilly Bennett of Menton and Monte Carlo DP. We've met and enjoyed the company of CDPers from the Riviera to Shanghai. It's been a wonderful experience and well worth the work.

Like the Energizer bunny, this will keep going and going, if the Force is with me. Sure hope that CDP itself hasn't gone belly up; it's such a great way to meet good photographers and delightful people (you haven't lived until you've had the full tour of Evry personally conducted by Olivier). I'm hopeful - there is still a (non-working) link to the portal on Eric Tenin's Paris DP, and he ought to know.

The work crush lightens after today. Back to commenting on all your wonderful blogs and new STL material this weekend. Thanks for five years of your comments and encouragement, your art and your friendship.

Juste une petite question Bob, en 5 ans , combien de photos de FOOT US ? ;o)))

Bonne continuité, et c'etait toujours un plaisir de te voir sur Paris et Evry.

Tres beau portrait de vous deux.

ah, dear weary mr. crowe, congratulations on this wonderful anniversary. we all celebrate with you. cdp has brought such pleausre into our lives. in a way it has made the world like a richly diverse neighborhood where we travel from house to house and experience the hospitality of different cultures and customs, and we, too, open our 'homes' to visitors who are interested in the fabric of our lives. so happy to see this lovely portrait done by one of cdps finest ambassadors and dearest friends, jilly.

I have thoroughly enjoyed your photo tour of my hometown and am glad you inspired me to do a blog of St. Petersburg, FL. Happy Anniversary! Over the years, I know sometimes it has been difficult for you keep up the posting due to work and life, but I appreciate your efforts.

Happy Anniversary! I wanted to tell you that I sincerely appreciate your efforts. I live in a small town in central Missouri, and get to St. Louis often, but enjoy your perspective of the city. I also love your coverage of events I never seem to get to attend.

Oh dear dear Bob - you made me tired just reading that first paragraph. But goodness, what an honour that you chose to show a photo I took of you and your wonderful Carolyn on one of our evenings in Menton. Many congratulations on your five years - you could publish ten books on the ways to photograph the arch. Many many congratulations on the achievements in your various blogs. I so agree with you - CDP brings so many delights, not the least of which is that it brought you to Menton and the chance for us to meet and pass some treasured time together in Italy and here in Menton and around. I just hope you will be back one day. Enjoy your day, dear Bob and love to you and Carolyn. xxx

Happy Anniversay for a great blog! I love this photo and hope that one day I'll meet Jilly have one taken by her too! Keep up the great work!
I see you've just returned from a stay in Costa Rica at the home of my good friends Julie and Dave. I went there with Julie when she first bought the place and loved every minute of it.
