I want to apologize to all the good photographers on CDPB for my lack of comments on your pictures recently. There wasn't much time to spare during camera camp last week and work has been piled up high since I got home. I hope to get back up to speed over the next few days.This is a picture I took within a few minutes of this blog's first post. It was near sunset in winter. There was a beautiful cloud pattern undergoing subtle change. I cannot explain the river of clear air between the two cloud masses but the effect is dramatic. It makes me think of a tornado high in the sky.
I'm thinking of mixing in more color pictures of the Arch. That might be tough. The Arch is our local icon and I want to avoid cliches. I'll keep my eyes open.

This arch gives me the creeps. I mean when I see it I try to imagine I am not up there in it but I find myself still thinking I am up there in it and the thing starts to move one way and then the other and it comes crashing down with me in it.
I assume there is information on how much this sways in the wind and I also read that in the contruction of it that the heat of the sun caused the metal to expand and welding was a problem that had to be controlled at the whim of Nature.
I like your photo of it a lot and in black and white too.

I'm with Abe, this is a slightly creepy photo. Which is probably why I love it so much. If ever there's a horror movie that takes place downtown, this would make a good movie poster for it!
Zowie this is good in many ways. One small qualm though. Compositionally I think I would like the snow on the grass in the foreground highlighted somehow - like brighten it up to match the clouds. Or clone it out completely to have a fully black foreground.
