A Matter Of Personal Taste

Back on June 19, I posted a picture of a large plastic alligator chomping a piece of pottery in front of St. Louis' strangest lawn, garden and home decor store, Gringo Jones. Going back over the photo archives until I can shoot some new material, I found these images of the jumble of wacky stuff on the sidewalk in front. Someone buys it. Would you like this sort of thing in your house?

Voila une maison de collectionneur. J'aime ce côté foutoir. la statue de l'elephant, grandiose. Bon weekend

Veiled a house of collector. I like this side to foutoir. the statue of the elephant, imposing. Good weekend

Honestly, some people use strange things or find strange uses for things. Most of this stuff would work for a lot of people. The old weather vane would be my first choice.

My grandchildren would think an elephant in the backyard is the perfect lawn accessory.

But, I bet if you looked really hard you could find some real treasure. But, on the other hand, one person's treasure is another person's trash!

Hmm...not too sure I'd like anyting in the photos. I've never been to Gringo Jones! I can never get their commercial out of my head, though. I suppose I'll have to stop by sometime. Judging by the motley collection you've shown us, I'm bound to find something in there that I like, as I tend to be a rather strange person with (forgive me!) strange tastes. (I didn't mean the word play there, I swear!)

Ooooh yes, let's do go shoot some of U City. It's been months since I've been there, and I've rarely gone anywhere around there that isn't to do with shopping, movies, or concerts. Anytime you want, I'm there! ...as long as I can find a babysitter.

Soosh - Gringo Jones is at Vandeventer and Shaw, a couple of blocks west of the Garden, right off 44. Fun place to look around.

This weekend, I am hoping to shoot an open house by a bunch of local artists, sponsored by the Contemporary, followed by a BBQ at the museum. Check http://www.contemporarystl.org/openstudios.php?PHPSESSID=85a6a1a5b424bc830fb8bb22ee3d9f31 . If I'm lucky, later Saturday night, I may shoot a friend of my son's (I've known him a long time, too) who is a DJ. Can't do U City this weekend but maybe soon. I've posted some pictures from the Loop on the blog.
