The Loop Ice Festival

.
The Delmar Loop is a stretch packed with restaurants, entertainment venues and unusual shops. It lies mostly in University City, so named because most of the main campus of Washington University is within it, and is growing into St. Louis proper. It got the name Loop because years ago there used to be a loop of track where the trolley cars turned around to go back to the city. In 2007, the American Planning Association named the Loop as one of the ten best streets in America. Really.

On Saturday, The Loop put on an Ice Carnival. Pretty weenie stuff for you far northern types but fun for us. There were ice sculptures up and down the street. This one showed a lot of imagination.

WHAT I CAN'T GET OUT OF MY HEAD: We Sail the Ocean Blue from Gilbert and Sullivan's H. M. S. Pinafore. What's wrong with me?

TOMORROW: another frozen treat: gee, this looks like fun. Plus a new Arch photo on Gateway.

Is he smokin' a stogie?? I love ice carvings. Seems hard to do with a chain saw. And the song stuck in your head, maybe it is cause it has a TUNE B!

PS I am still chuckling thinking about you in the chair at a SALON getting your hair cut! :)

that ice sculpture really glows... did it have access to those S&P shakers yeaterday?
Nothing wrong with G&S either. Are you the very model of a modern major general?

V: I have nothing against tunes. Just that that are other interesting things to listen to that stretch the definition.

KG: well, in a way. I once wrote a parody version of that song called "I Am The Perfect Advocate Of Poor Disabled Applicants," the lyrics to which should not be published here. I could email then if I can find them.

Interesting ice sculpture - just that everytime I see an ice sculpture I think of whoever did it and how COLD they must have been. I suppose they carve in gloves and how could you do that?

I grew up there (until about age 11)... went to school there...and even worked at the Tiv when I came back to St. Louis in the 90's.

I live in Affton now...

I don't get back there often...because I don't go out...but i'm always passing on Skinker.

How long have the gaslights been there?

Wow!

Still some names missing from that Walk of Fame though...
