Raptor

.
Life and death in quiet, lovely Tower Grove Park. I was shooting trees and snow in late afternoon light last weekend when a passer-by pointed out this hawk and its victim. The bird guarded its prey but let me get close - I was at most 4 meters away when I took these shots. On rare occasions, I've also seen hawks in Forest Park, our big one.

WHAT'S GRATIFYING: the number of hits and comments I got on my theme day post Sunday. I thought it might be too obscure. My blog is not a mega comment collector. Now, what am I going to do with glass for March?

TOMORROW: one for Snapper.

You lucky duck. That's a great shot and I would like to see a tighter crop. You could print a warning for the faint of heart.

As for selling your photos, what I'm not clear about is the print quality, who prints it so it's top-notch. Or do you have your own darkroom? I've been there, done that and don't want to return to it. I'm strictly digital.

Fantastic. What a privilege to see such an amazingly beautiful creature up close and photograph it too. And so beautifully photographed too. You must be absolutely thrilled. Well done.

Jilly said it best, it is a privilege. This also highlights the shadow which I like very much.

Wow. I got a picture of a hawk eating a pigeon on our main shopping street over Christmas. It was startling to see it right there on the sidewalk. Great pictures.

This reminds of one day a few years ago. I was bird watching one morning from my bay window at home when all of the sudden a hawk swooped down and killed a dove not two feet in front of me. I was simultaneously horrified and fascinated.

What a catch to be so close to this scene. A wonderful photo!

Bob, these are just outstanding. The hawk looks like it's wearing pantaloons! Very exciting to see the expression in its eyes. Kudos.

Agree with the others on the subject and quality...and the pantaloons. Part of me is sayin, "Awww....poor squirrel," but that is what happens in nature.
