The American Queen (not to be confused with The African Queen, which is on TV here at the moment) is a luxurious paddlewheeler which can take you for a few nights up and down the Mississippi from New Orleans to St. Louis and back again. The name of the boat company, Majestic American Line, and this boat, too, is dorky. This is a republic, dammit. It looks pretty cool, though, shining in the river on a cloudless day.
At the left, one of the crew takes a break while the boat is moored at the St. Louis levee.

I've always wanted to do this, but never have. The siren call of faraway shores always seems to take precedence.
We have our Delta Queen which is supposed to be pretty nice too. I have thought about taking a trip to New Orleans and back to Cincinnati on it but then this past July we drove along the Ohio river and I thought, "Is this what I would see all the way to the city of New Orleans." So I have not thought about it for a while.

This is a dream of mine. Well to visit Jackson, Mississippi and Memphis and to see these wonderful paddlewheelers. One day, one day...
