March Madness

.
KU Band At Kiener 3

The quarterfinals of the U.S. men's college basketball tournament is in town this weekend. The whole process is usually referred to as March Madness, and it really is. People get silly-stupid about 20 year olds shooting baskets for far-away schools. I, of course, have no interest in it (well, at least since St. Louis University got knocked out in the second round).

I was out at lunchtime with my camera yesterday, hoping the fresh spring foliage would provide some new material. The sound of brass bands was wafting out of Kiener Plaza so I walked over for a look. Turned out that the team bands and cheerleaders of each of the schools was performing. North Carolina State University was going off and Kansas University coming on. My wife's family is from Kansas (she even has a sister named Dorothy who still lives in Kansas, but who sadly does not have a dog names Toto). This became a mandatory stop 'n' shoot.

NC State's teams are known as the Wolfpack, which is kind of gruesome. The avatar on hand yesterday was a slender lady in a 50's-looking skirt and a really ugly head. No shortage of irony. No one around in a Kansas Jayhawk suit but the band was pretty good.

GOOD NEWS: a commenter from Indianapolis yesterday said that she had e-mailed Eric Tenin about the portal and He replied. The portal was hacked. Tenin said they hope to have it back up this weekend.

Oh there's no way you could have passed this opportunity by Bob, the spring foliage will still be there tomorrow.
So happy to hear that the CDP portal will be back up soon, it's amazing how much easier it makes everything!

Ugly it is, but everything else looks good and fun.

I probably won't be back. I have stopped here and left comments a number of times. I still have not seen your name on any of my blogs.

Good shots, Bob!

I don't see much point in basketball myself... it really is a silly sport.

Bob--I'm not into basketball, either but I love your photos!

William--I see the idiot you were talking about. Geez....

I'm a Jayhawk and I love March Madness. :)
Great shots of the cheerleaders and band. I know it's silly to get so excited over 20-year-olds throwing a ball into a hoop. But you've got to get excited about something. :)

Bobbie, Bobbie, Bobbie,
What sport isn't silly? I prefer rugby, golf AND basketball. some argue whether golf is a sport or a game. Q: Is the divot the hole or the chunk of dirt from the hole? To quote a dear friend: "WHA?"
another observation: not a single player or b-ball in sight. "WHA?" B-ball is a very subtle cultural notion, keep trying to experience, hopefully you'll get someday.
Love ya, Bobbie,
Sincerest regards,
Tony

To each his own, Bob. Many of us like watching kids who are exceptionally skilled in this one area and who have worked hard all season long to get this far in the tournament. Sometimes there are happy upsets, like seeing a little known team knock Duke out of the tournament. Sometimes a top-ranked team reallyh is as good as it was ranked and goes all the way.

As I said earlier, the only time I was in the know was years ago when I was part of a "pool" or something like that. I think it's great that these kids get a chance to show their stuff nationally. I'm just pouty cause AUburn isn't in it.

Understandable. I have something of the same problem. I just can't seem to get around like I once did. Either too many blogs to visit or too little time. Or both.
