While doing my weekend photo trawling around town I saw a group of people, some in quasi-medieval dress, some it tee shirts and shorts, in pitched battle on the make-believe Runnymede of Forest Park. Had to stop and say hello.
This is the Realm of Arnor, according to Mike Hockaday, the organizer. It's the St. Louis branch of Belegarth, a "medieval combat society" inspired by the works of J. R. R. Tolkien: role playing, fantasy and good outdoor exercise with foam-covered swords and cudgels. What a great idea. There are lots of times I'd like to whap the bejeezus out of certain people with foam (or other) weaponry. More tomorrow. And pray, my lord, smiteth not the photographer!
Two days in a row with non-English post captions. Am I putting on airs?

Ha! Yes, I can definitely identify with wanting to whap someone sometimes. Those 'noodles' kids play with in the swimming pool are fun... Love these photos.
Bob, do you remember this scene from The First Wives Club?
Give me a costume and I'll gladly spend a few days au Moyen-Age. I won't fight though. I'll probably sit by a window drinking dandelion tea and work on a tapestry.
VoilĂ .
Oh, that's different!
At least their weapons are cushioned. This kind of stuff appeals much more to me as a photographer than as a combatant.
Fantastic Bob, such a great way to have fun and let off steam. This chap walking towards you in the last image looks a little like he might WAP you one haha!!
Very cool shots! Great and unexpected series.
Ah, that last photo is the best. The action comes your way it seems !
Come on, don on a costume and join in. You know you want to! LOL
Just found this while looking for our sword fighting group online...
I'm the guy with the bandana in the last picture.
