A public golf course in Forest Park, so I suppose it was technically open. Using a conventional golf ball would be problematic.
I'm not a golfer or anything-er. Devoid of athletic talent. Still, I don't understand the sign below. Divots I get. But ball marks? Golfers?

No idea- Jack from Naples and Hartford might. I just agree with the old sentiment that golf is a good walk wasted.
One of the rules of golf. When balls land, from above, on the green, they tend to leave ball marks. It's one of the courtesies to your fellow golfers. Putting and hitting one of these can ruin your hole, round, life.
How'd I do, Jack?
I've just learned something today although of course this can be read with a totally different meaning...
Why, Birdman has it right! Greens have grass cut very low and the surface is supposed to be very smooth. A ball flying onto the green from up high can pound into the green with enough force to leave a depression. So, as a courtesy to other golfers and to keep the course in good shape, anyone noticing one of those depressions is asked to repair it.
Ha. Great minds and all that. I visited a golf course a while back when we still had snow.
Well there you go, another wee bit of I do stored for future use :)
