The Skinny

One of Niki de Saint Phalle's series of sculptures at the Missouri Botanical Garden is called the skinnies. They are almost two-dimensional, but not quite. This work is full of her characteristic wit. I like the dinosaurs facing off against one another, the small human figure riding a giraffe and the baby hanging in space. What details in this appeal to you?

Unusual. Did the artist make the miniature figurines too?

What a cool photo of a neat sculpture.

I love the way the way the foliage in the background creates a unifying coat of fur or hair on the frame of the skinny being. Reminds me of a sketch of Grendal (from Beowulf) I saw once. Also, love the fact that all of those earthly things live and hang inside this being, just as all things and all of history are within all of us. Great image!

This is a lovely series of this artist's work. I love the colours she uses. Your photographs are super.

Is that an entire human figure that you've cropped? What does the whole sculpture look like?
