Barkus

Barkus Parade 2014-02-23 2

It's time for the first event in St. Louis' run-up to Mardi Gras, The Barkus Dog Parade. (Barkus . . . Bacchus . . . get it?).  Fat Tuesday is a surprisingly big deal here. As I have noted before, St. Louis loves an excuse to drink in public during the daytime.

Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of dogs and their owners turn out for the pooch promenade through the Soulard neighborhood. It was packed yesterday with relatively good weather. One group is sillier than the next. The little one above looks to be in an encounter with the Grim Kennel Master. Some people dye their dog's fur. Some put together little floats.

More to come.

I much prefer Madeleine because she isn't mauve.

Tres belle et tendre photo de Madeleine

The serenity of Madeleine is quite a contrast to the zaniness of the dogs on parade.

One parade I'd have definitely gone to see, even parade with Bibi, though being black, she doesn't lend herself to psychedelic colors.

Madeleine has given up on Bacchus for Morpheus.

One of the sweetest photos you've made of her. There's such abandon in a sleeping child in her mother's arms...

I sure hope those dogs get a REALLY good treat after the parade :) This is one of the loveliest shots of Madeleine, what a little sweetheart.

Little Madeleine does look sweet like that!

I can just picture all the wagging tails at that parade!

The puppies are cute...but not as cute as Miss Madeleine!

Silly silly silly. Do those dogs have a cause of action?

Lovely Madeleine.

Oh my goodness the mauve dog! Well each to their own. They hae fun, ditto the dogs. But the winner for me is that superbly beautiful and sensitive photo of Madelaine. Just so beautiful, Bob. Madeleine, of course, and the photo. The light, the placing of the focal point - it all works perfectly as she is asleep. Truly love it.
