CDP Theme Day: Shy Self Portrait (Parts 1 and 2)

Shy Self Portrait 1

It's the first of the month and City Daily Photo bloggers are challenged to come up with images for theme day. For April it's shy self portraits. More than a little April Fool's Day feel to it.

No, I am not depressed. I'm just always looking for something different on theme day. (My favorite is this one from the first year of STL DPB.) So no shadows, silhouettes or funny masks. I came up with a couple of variations.

The first one was taken at home, on a tripod with a timer. (Triggertrap for IOS and Android is the most awesome photography app ever.)  Just sitting by a window with soft, overcast light. Those of you who have met me know that I have rheumatoid arthritis. I neither draw attention to it or conceal it but it gets noticed.

The second photo is an iPhone selfie using the Plastiq Camera app. (I actually went out and bought a selfie stick for this. I am so ashamed.) It takes Lomo or Holga-like color images. Then I further degraded it in Photoshop. I dunno, a little cheesy. If you like it, fine.

You can view obscure representations of City Daily Photo members around the world here.

It is that you say you are not depressed because for me the thats still the look off these pictures although the blocky one could also be blocked by the censor for not recognizing the perpetrator of all that beautiful thursday arch shots.

I like them both, but the second one is artistic and also include a nice composition.

For mine, the first shot is miles ahead of the other. I do not get "depression" from it at all. Having read your text, I find the hands in front of the face a screening device, but to use your hands, which are identifiably you, like this shows your character. So, to me, the first shot is an image of your outside AND of your inside. Great interpretation ...

Julie made some astute observations about the top photo; I interpret it as a perfect photo for Passover and Holy Week. Looks very contemplative.

Hahaha Good second one. A creative take on the topic.

I expected a creative solution from you and got it. Well done.

But, Bob, a selfie stick? Say it aint so!

Two wonderful shots in very different ways Bob .. The first powerfully personal and the second if we didn't know it was you absolutely autonomous. Fantastic for the theme.
P.s. hope you've gotten rid of the selfie stick by now :)

Bob, I truly love the first one. Great take on the theme.

I like them both Bob. Now that you've taken this photo, what are you going to do with that selfie stick? Back scratcher maybe?

You should not have admitted to the selfie stick! ;-)
I do like your choices for today, though I definitely like the first one better.

I would tend to draw exhaustion out of the first one. I like the creativity of both, but the first one suits me most.

Both images are creative and perfect for this theme day!

The hint of an eye peering through the hands dissuaded me from a depressive image, more humourous. Interesting how many interpretations can be gleaned from one image. Selfie with a difference, yes.

Both are brilliant, as was the bridges one.

You put a lot of thought and effort (and expense?) into theme day! Great contributions both.

Remember Confidential Magazine from way back when? Photos used to have dense black rectangles across peoples eyes, as if that really hid your identity. Well, pixilation technology does a much better job. But still made me think of Confidential Magazine.
