STL DPB ON THE ROAD - SELF PORTRAIT WITH BLUE TAPE

We're sitting in a lounge at O'Hare Airport in Chicago as I write this.  I spent much of the flight from London editing pictures and there are still more to go. This is in the Tate Modern museum, which is full of cutting edge stuff. One room had mirrors of various sizes hung from the ceiling. The mirrors and walls were edged with blue masking tape in two widths. That's it. And then I walked into the scene.

JUST GETTING BY

With trash? Probably a lot, one way or the other. Another enigmatic sign from the exhibit in Park-Like.

City Daily Photo Theme Day - Me

There is plenty more to come from New York but it's the first of the month and City Daily Photo theme day. There aren't a lot of photos with me in front of the lens. Most of them are for an online class or some exercise I set for myself. These pix are a few years old. The top one is full lawyer battle dress. The second is quiet and shows what RA has done to my hands. Then there is the double arch joke picture on my Facebook page

The theme makes me think of one of my favorite photographers, Cindy Sherman, who photographs herself over and over in a myriad of different personas. You can be whoever you want in an image.

CDP Theme Day: Shy Self Portrait (Parts 1 and 2)

Shy Self Portrait 1

It's the first of the month and City Daily Photo bloggers are challenged to come up with images for theme day. For April it's shy self portraits. More than a little April Fool's Day feel to it.

No, I am not depressed. I'm just always looking for something different on theme day. (My favorite is this one from the first year of STL DPB.) So no shadows, silhouettes or funny masks. I came up with a couple of variations.

The first one was taken at home, on a tripod with a timer. (Triggertrap for IOS and Android is the most awesome photography app ever.)  Just sitting by a window with soft, overcast light. Those of you who have met me know that I have rheumatoid arthritis. I neither draw attention to it or conceal it but it gets noticed.

The second photo is an iPhone selfie using the Plastiq Camera app. (I actually went out and bought a selfie stick for this. I am so ashamed.) It takes Lomo or Holga-like color images. Then I further degraded it in Photoshop. I dunno, a little cheesy. If you like it, fine.

Self-Portrait With Black Sedan and Convex Mirror

Just driving aimlessly around town, looking for something to shoot. (For the locals, I was just east of the Washington University medical center, southbound on Boyle, barely north of the Metrolink track. More about that soon.)
