Cold Day, Empty Park 1

FP winter 2015-01-04 1

I had no material for the coming week. Yesterday was cold, windy and gray. Not promising. What to do? Then, standing in the bathroom brushing my teeth (really), an idea hit me. Usually busy public venues were empty. Shoot the emptiness. The first thought was of tennis courts and then expanded to everything in Forest Park.

The first stop was the World's Fair Pavilion, one of the few structures left from the 1904 event. (We used to be somebody.) It is a large building with open-sided arcades and a sweeping view to the north. In good weather you will find painters, picnickers, festivals and many wedding receptions. Yesterday, as the wind whipped through the arches, only me and a cement turtle.

Empty and cold it is. In this case even stronger by the B&W.

Yes, these make for splendid, stark images, Bob.

The emptiness is impressive, was it silent too? These are brilliant without people.

Unusual feeling walking around in a park where there's normally a lot of other people. makes for some interesting photos.
