Well, What ARE You Doing?

This vehicle was spotted in the parking lot of the Missouri Botanical Garden. We Americans are reeling from the increase in the price of gasoline but we don't appreciate how good we've had it. Almost everyplace in the world has much higher fuel taxes. The price for regular in St. Louis is about US$ 0.97 per liter, if I worked out the conversion correctly, and we're cheaper than most of the country. I paid almost twice that the last time I drove in the UK two or three years ago. Many of us are passionately in love with big SUVs and pickup trucks (like the one in the mid-ground here) but the cost of operating them is becoming unaffordable for many. We have long distances to drive and poor public transportation in many regions. It's creating a hardship for some but it will force us to change out habits.

Ah, good post, Strangetastes. Well, there are now car sharing schemes to get workers from Nice to Monaco. In Europe, of course, we've always had the notion of a smaller car. Also there are now electric cars - a friend has one and adores it.

Also buses in Alpes-Maritimes cost only 1 euro per fare, however far you go, however long the journey,so long as it's in this Department, which is totally brilliant. I believe it would even include the new tramway in Nice.

I admire the guts to drive the bike with the large sign, but think about it. Conserving gasoline for what? To drive tomorrow...

The sign would be best if it read, Get a bike and peddle to work. Forget gasoline and automobiles and SUVs and pickups and all the things that are killing us with pollution and global warming.

Interesting post. As a city dweller I walk to every places around downtown. I see lately a lot people who live in suburb choose carpool to work in downtown, I guess that part count as a conserving gasoline. Excellent shot!

I might be able to afford to drive that vehicle, although I have to have my airconditioning.

Great sign! We're doing our best with fuel-efficient vehicles and considering other options too...

To answer the question: I work at home. If people want to conserve gasoline, they should start their own businesses!
