Chicago: Cloud Gate

Cloud Gate 3

You've probably seen pictures of this. If you've been to Chicago you have seen it in person. Popularly known as The Bean, it is a giant stainless steel sculpture in Millennium Park downtown.  I think it has become selfie headquarters of the city.

I've been at a legal conference all day followed by dinner with colleagues. Cuts into comment time. Home tonight.

Crown Fountain

Crown Fountain 1

Big day on the street in Chicago yesterday. This is a genuine Big Important City, which St. Louis is not.

Crown Fountain is one of the city's most photographed modern landmarks. The faces of thousands of Chicagoans are displayed on a giant LED screen on monumental blocks. Water streams down all sides. From time to time, the mouths spout a stream of water. Children delight in this place.

Chicago Architecture

Chicago 2013-04-28 7

Went on a walking tour yesterday with the Chicago Architecture Foundation. There are few cities with such a rich collection of old and daring new buildings.

No spare time. Working hard at playing. Today working hard at working.

STL DBP On The Road: Chicago

.
2011-10-08 Chicago 1

We drove to Chicago Friday afternoon, about 300 miles or 500 km, across the broad Illinois prairie. A bit of downtown touristy stuff yesterday, including the much photographed Crown Fountain in Millennium Park. At the Art Institute of Chicago, I feared that these young men, upon order from their sergeant, might pee in unison on George Seurat's Sunday on La Grande Jatte.

The Chicago Marathon is today. Pix of my son battling his way through tomorrow. We have a long drive home this afternoon so the post may not go up until the morning U.S. Central Time.

Between Chicago and St. Louis

.
Boy In Crown Fountain

Back home now, but I need something between Chicago and fresh material from The Lou. So, how about some gratuitous cuteness? This kid is marching through the half inch of water between the two video slabs of Crown Fountain in Millennium Park.

STL DPB In Chicago: Cloud Gate

.
Cloud Gate 2 BW

Cloud Gate (often known as The Bean) in Chicago's Millennium Park must be one of the most photographed objects in the United States. So, naturally, I felt compelled to add to the pile. Check the first link to get a better sense of the scale and shape.

Home this afternoon but we'll have a bit more from Chicago until I get some fresh local stuff.

STL DPB On The Road: Chicago

.
Running for our plane so just a quick note. This is the sculpture Cloud Gate, popularly know as The Bean, in Millennium Park.

BY THE WAY, there is a funny sort-of portrait of me today on U "R" Us' Chicago DPB.

TOMORROW: hope to get some pix of President Obama throwing out the first pitch at the baseball All Star Game here tonight. We'll be there. The post will probably be up mid-morning my time since we'll be out late and I have a court appearance early tomorrow morning.
