CITY DAILY PHOTO DECEMBER THEME - LUXURY

It's something that's common to many but not all people: a desire for expensive stuff that makes them feel special, better than others because of exclusivity. I can have this, you can't, and therefore I am a superior person. But as they say, money can't buy happiness.

However, are there perhaps little satisfying luxuries, more of a small special comfort than a show of ostentation? It could be good for someone's mental health and otherwise harmless.

Hard questions. Find  out how other City Daily Photo members from around the world see them at https://citydailyphoto.org/category/theme-days/.

CITY DAILY PHOTO DECEMBER THEME DAY - THE FUTURE

People who seriously try to predict the future are almost always wrong. That being said, I don't see much reason for optimism. The scale of risk is greater and greater, and humanity isn't getting a lot nicer. This photo has two layers but is not a composite. The top is a crystal ball I keep on my desk designed by one of my favorite artists, Jenny Holzer. The words are engraved on the bottom. Beneath it is a Chinese ten yuan note with its image of Mao. Read it as you will.

CITY DAILY PHOTO DECEMBER THEME DAY - COMFORT FOOD

Time for the City Daily Photo monthly theme day. Now that I'm the administrator I can pick anything I want, bwahahahah. The choice isn't controversial, though. We could all use some comfort at the end of this awful year. For Americans, semi-junk food like what's on offer here just goes down so good. This place isn't in St. Louis though, but in Chicago. The one place we  had that was comparable went out of business.

City Daily Photo Theme Day: Transitions

First Ad Sign We saw In Tibet

I don't have any new local material so I had to dig into the archives for this one. Not at all local, in one sense. It's the first billboard we saw outside of the Lhasa, Tibet, airport. We have an American icon, written first in English, then Tibetan, then Chinese. That's a transition.

And there is a link to the home town of this blog. Look closely at the can, where it says Anheuser Busch, Inc., St. Louis, MO, USA. The world keeps shrinking.

City Daily Photo Theme Day: Shop Windows

Union Station Storefront 2

It's the American way. Consumption fuels the economy and trashes the planet. Found in the arcade in Union Station.
