Entertainment and education. There are still hawks in this area but there are environmental and population pressures. Young hawks have difficulty surviving. The man works for an organization (the name escapes me) that finds hawk chicks, literally trains them to hunt, and then releases them back into the wild.

He definitely looks like a pirate! Great Hawk! I saw one the other day, but he didn't fly close to me, however his wing span looked too long for a hawk, maybe buzzard or eagle...I don't think Osprey come this far north, nor in mountain areas. Anyway, another guy and I wondered aloud what it was...and off it flew over the horizon...
A formidable bird.
