First Time On Ice

We took Ellie to the holiday rink in Kiener Plaza yesterday afternoon. First time on ice skates. The little kids can have a double-bladed model and this sled-cum-walker to hang on to. After entering the rink under the watchful eye of the SLPD, she found that she just loved it.

Her mother, Emily, hadn't been on skates in at least twenty years and found it very difficult. Mrs. C and I wouldn't even consider going out there. (I never learned and I'm too old to start.) But this kid, who is nearly fearless, has a lot of promise.

She looks adorable, hope she will go on with real skates in some years.

She looks like she's doing very well. Good for her! I never learned to skate either. My mother had injured herself skating when she was young and had the scar on her knee to prove it. I don't think she was keen on teaching her kids to skate because of that.

Funny but you reminded me of the strap-on double bladed skates I first had when I was a wee kid. I had forgotten about them. It is much easier and less injurious to fall when you are a kid than now when you are older!

What a joyful time for her. Skating gives so much pleasure and since she loves it, I hope that she has a wonderful time and some future success on the rink. I recall having my own kids learning balance by pushing around a chair on the ice. Our son skied and skated like a graceful gull on the slopes and ice. Although the sport doesn't interest me, it was fun watching him play hockey because of his skating ability.

One moment a baby, the second on skates. Times flies.

There are similar walkers here for beginning skaters.
