Multiple Choice Question

Milles Fountain 2014-03-30 6

Is this character in the Meeting Of The Waters fountain:

A. Trying to listen to the ocean in a seashell?

B. Balancing a snail on his head?

C. Practicing medieval medicine by using a leech to suck blood out of his body?

Extra credit question: where did he get that haircut?

I don't have a clue. I'm sure there are snails in the Mississippi but the ocean is a long way away.

And welcome to spring in the Midwest. The tornado sirens went off about 5 yesterday morning and again from 7 to 8:30 in the evening. No funnel clouds in our neighborhood but there were a few around the area.  We got a brief but violent thunderstorm with marble-size hail. We were lucky.

A) is what I'd like it to be.

The haircut is what we call a bowl haircut (coupe au bol): put a bowl on your head and cut all around it. A.k.a. Joan of Arc haircut. This reminds me of Vigeland Park in Oslo.

I agree with Ciel's comment about Vigeland Park in Oslo. We took some photos there and they used one of them several years ago for the street banners around downtown and the Royal Palace promoting the Oslo Freedom Forum.

It struck me as odd that they communicated with us in Scottsdale, Arizona to get the rights to use a photo of a stationary object in their own city. The statue wasn't going any place. They could have walked out to the same park and taken the same photo. Oh well. We were honored that they used our photo.

I have a Facebook friend who lives in St. Louis and he posted a photo of all the hale all over the street and on his car in front of his house. It looked like it had snowed.

I live in Memphis and we got the same storm later. There were high winds all late evening (Thursday), but at 2 a.m. it started. The winds, lightning and thunder were quite severe and lasted about an hour. I expected to find shingles blown off this morning, but fortunately things were okay.

I would say A. It's got a whimsical kind of quality to it.

Norma mentioned the tornadoes as well there.

My wife and I passed that fountain this morning on our commute. The water is on and one of the jets is pointed directly at the nethers of one of statues -- very standing-bidet like.

None of the above and his Momma put a bowl on his head and cut it!

We'll be hearing sirens too before long. I dread tornado season for many reasons.
