An Old Sailor

.
Veterans Day Parade 2011-11-05 4

Another shot from last weekend's Veterans Day parade. This old sailor still has a lot of snap in his salute. Note the word Seabees under the windshield. They are, in effect, the U. S. military's civil engineers and construction company. A can-do bunch of people.

Our traditional naval sailor's hat is a little strange. It looks like it would blow off easily in ocean winds and simply collect water when it rains.

beau portrait de ce veteran, la seule chose qui me chagrine c'est le bout du drapeau sur la droite, il attire l'oeil.

Nice shot, Bob. I was in the Navy back in the 50s. Actually, I liked the white hat. But it could be hard to keep on under certain conditions.

Great portrait, he looks quite moved. These guys often take risks even bigger than the combat troops.

A good and fitting portrait.

Good picture, Bob. Is his hat the usual one? It seems to have a much heavier braid at the edge than usual. But what do I know . . .

LOL at your comment about the sailor's hat. Perhaps being able to collect water is a great asset for survival at sea when supplies run low (including the rum)?
