STL DPB IN THE AIR - SMOKE SIGNALS

Flew over to New York yesterday and then drove to New Jersey, where I'll spend the 4th of July holiday with my sibs and their families. I made sure to get a window seat on the left/north side of the plane. Irregular streaks of soot stained the sky. As I drove across the bridge linking Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx, the air was a smudge of orange-brown, the sun looking like old fruit ready for the trash.

My plane got out of St. Louis just as lightening was flashing across the west. Shortly thereafter, a huge storm blew in, causing flash flooding and downed power lines. At least it clears the air.

STL DPB ON THE ROAD - SKY OF BLUE AND SEA OF GREEN

Now all we need is a yellow submarine and the scene will be complete. For all I know the Costa Rican coast guard has a cheery little vessel floating under the waves. This is part of the view from our condo's balcony.

FLYOVER COUNTRY

We are a mid-size Midwestern city. People from the big cities of the coasts pass over us, sometimes leaving mysterious patterns in the sky. This was taken from my office window on a recent late afternoon, facing roughly east-northeast. The plains of Illinois are in the foreground.

Fly Over Country

Flyover 2 BW

If you don't know the term in the caption, click here

This was what was outside my office windows yesterday afternoon. iPhone shots, via Photoshop.

I'll get back to the Garden Glow photos soon. Too much to do at work, too many evening obligations got in the way of editing. However, we are driving to Kansas City today, a very pleasant place, on our way to see Mrs. C's family around Marysville, Kansas, for Thanksgiving. Her mother turns 97 this weekend and is doing pretty well, thank you. There will be some quiet time to work while out on the prairie.

Hole In The Sky

.
Another one of those "um, what do I have on some hard drive that I can post?" photos. Shot from my office window. I'm on the 23rd floor and there's nothing taller in this direction (south) until maybe Memphis.

WHAT'S ON MY WEEKEND TO-DO LIST:
1. Clean my desk. (Yeah, right). 2. Edit more pix from Kansas (no problem there). 3. Do all my Christmas shopping on Amazon. (They love me and vice versa.) 4. Look really silly at my once-a-year tuxedo wearing event, the annual black tie fundraising dinner dance for the Arthritis Foundation. I'm a member of the local board and I have to show up. Anyone want to see a picture of that? Have I ever mentioned that I can't dance to save my life?

TOMORROW:
what I was going to post on theme day if I couldn't think of anything better.

Asterisk

We here in the Midwest are under the crossroads of the American skies. I saw this in my neighborhood as I returned from work Wednesday night. An asterisk often leads to a footnote or comment. Sometimes is is a substitute for indelicate letters, as in f*** or its cousins.

What does the asterisk in the sky mean to you?
