Counter Culture

I don't know about your country, but in this one it is common to see a variation of this in the back window of large SUVs and mini vans. They are stick figures of a man (always the first one on the left), a woman, children of various sizes and genders, and often pets. There is so much of this around that there is a web site devoted to selling these things.  I think it's really dorky.

Someone else does, too. Found yesterday on Old Main Street in St. Charles on our way to the ice carving festival.

Self Expression

Stickers 1

I don't think you could find a car that looks like this anywhere in the world but the US. This kind of complete cover is uncommon but it's not unique. You do see plenty of vehicles that have lots of stickers on the back promoting political or sometimes religious views, any kind of music from heavy metal to the symphony, organizations of every kind or just whatever the owner wants to make a statement about.

Makes you wonder if the weight of all the stickers reduces the car's fuel economy. On the other hand, think of what the owner could save on car washes and minor body work.

Found in University City along the Delmar Loop.

The theme for City Daily Photo bloggers on February 1 is
"A Scene from a Cafe or Coffee House.”

Elvis' Cars

Graceland 18 (1956 Caddilac Eldorado)

From top to bottom:

1956 Caddilac Eldorado

1966 Rolls Royce Silver Cloud

1970 Ferrari Dino

Lincoln Continental - didn't get the year

The pink Caddilac

Elvis came from a poor family in the poor town of Tupelo, Mississippi, not far south of Memphis (part of Tupelo was flattened by a tornado a few days ago). I can understand why someone from that background would crave the material marks of success, but then I think about what the money spent on those cars could have done for his home town. Elvis could have used more Buddha nature.

Graceland 16 (1960 Rolls Toyce Silver Cloud)

Graceland 17 (1970 Ferrari Dino)

Graceland 18 (Lincoln Continental)

Graceland 19 (Pink Caddilac)
