STL DPB On The Road: The Mesquite Flats Dunes

.
Many of he iconic images of Death Valley are the Mesquite Flats Dunes. It is an area where the mountain ranges and valleys meet in just a certain way, causing the dust and grit in the air to fall and make these mountains of sand. They are accessable from the road so lots of Lawrence of Arabia wannabes trudge to the top and roll or slide down. Like the person below, for example.

I'll never look at a dune in the same way since my trip to the desert around Doha, Qatar. Our driver thrilled us with ups and downs, sideways, forrward, and backware descents of huge, huge dunes....all in his Land Cruiser.

I like your photos, both of them, especially "Lawrence."

A wild and forbidding place to run out of gas or water. Beautiful in pictures.

The first shot is amazing, I've never seen Death Valley pictured like that.

I'll roll down after having crawled up.

That's one hard climb. And a spectacular shot.

A real Lawrence of Arabia!
Fine young man you've produced here.

I am truly fascinated by the trip you're taking us on. I've been to Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon but never to the Death Valley and I'm really enjoying it all.

The Armargosa Opera House was just unbelievable. The ghost town and its statue was amazing too. Bring on some more !

Real nice capture of the big one. I ran down the side that's in shadow on the right! Alas no rolling, as yes I was keeping the sand out my lens.
