I have other photos to show from Ste. Genevieve but this is worth an interruption. It snowed here most of Tuesday afternoon. Our average latest frost is about two weeks ago. Being in the middle of things we get buffeted by air masses moving east from the Rockies, south from the Canadian plains and north from the Gulf of Mexico. This shot was taken from my front porch yesterday. I wonder what the tulips and dogwood will look like by today.

Midwest Weather
No, we're not in Kansas anymore. That was a couple of weeks ago. We're in Missouri, the next one over.
Taken with my phone going southwest on I 44 driving home from downtown. It kinda looks like a tornado but it's not. Just a strange little shower falling out of a cloud with a bit of, um, image enhancement.
I've seen an actual tornado only once. This photo was taken from our old office that was on a higher floor than our current one and had an unobstructed view to the south. This was a verified touchdown, crossing the Mississippi from about the Anheuser-Busch brewery over to Illinois.

The Weather In St. Louis
.
This mask was for sale at the Pagan Picnic. I don't know why you'd wear it unless you got a part in The Rite of Spring or were playing The Rolling Stones' Their Satanic Majesties Request really loud. Actually, if you played either one really loud you would tick off one set of neighbors or the other.
That's what it feels like around here, day after day after day. We were offered tickets to the Cardinals game this afternoon against the arch-rival (no pun intended) Chicago Cubs, but who wants to sit in a stupor watching players in a stupor when the temperature is 101F/38C? There have been a few very small, isolated thunderstorms but we haven't had any significant rain in three months. By contrast, the high temperature today will be 77F/25C in the town in Maine I'm heading for. Can't wait.

Visit Soggy St. Louis
.

There's an old expression that everybody talks about the weather but nobody does anything about it. Not that they could. So we're having day after day of rain and the floods are coming back. Australia in in a lengthy drought. Parts of West Texas haven't had any rain since September. Chile and Japan had big earthquakes. Somewhere people are freezing and somewhere they are boiling. It's life on earth. Nowhere to hide. Gee, there hasn't been a big meteorite strike in who knows how long.
The photo is a soggy, misty place in Forest Park. There is always a chance of beauty along with the extremes.
