Mindful Lawyering

This little doo-dad has been on my desk for many years. Must have gotten it at Archie McPhee in Seattle or the dear departed Uncle Fun in Chicago. I should pay more attention to it.

I have a great admiration for Buddhism and the Western variety in vogue these days, secular Buddhism.  Over and over I think I should start a meditation practice but I seem to lack the self-discipline, time and social support. (The only person I know who does it is a couple of hundred miles away.) Maybe when I retire. There are a lot of things I'd like to do when I retire.

On a related note, on one single occasion in my life a friend dragged me to a yoga class. I could do corpse. That's it.

Desktop Icons

I am so out of material. Fortunately I had the new Fuji with me at the office yesterday. There had to be something to capture. My selection was a little rubber Buddha with a laptop (it's a squeaky toy) and mouse pad with Munch's iconic painting. Sort of a summary of what it's like to be a mindful lawyer these days.

Vertigo

Soundtrack here.

And while I'm taking pictures out my office windows - these people make me flip out when they go by. We're not in the biggest building but 15 stories straight down is a long way. He is in some kind of harness but I can't vouch for its security. The men who do this tend to look a bit rough and they may really need a job. It takes some extra motivation.

Christmas Eve At The Office

Christmas Eve In The Office 2
I promise I won't work all day today. There are no photos on my hard drive appropriate to the occasion so how about some cheer from my usual hangout?

Dinner tonight at Emily, Brian and Madeleine's home.  It's a wonderful thing to have a professional chef in the family. Brian's parents and brother are visiting from Houston and it's nice to have them here to join us.

A break from tradition for us tomorrow with Christmas brunch at the rooftop restaurant of the Chase-Park Plaza, overseen by Chef Brian. Early flight to LaGuardia on Saturday, weekend with my family in NJ. And all of Monday to spend on the magical island where I was born. (Okay, I confess. I'm still a snob about it.) There will be photo ops galore.

Where I Work

Where I Work

After I left the pantless crew at Pi I walked back to my office building to get my car. Just a block away. Another International Style office tower, nicely rehabbed in recent years, convenient, reasonably priced. The owner is in the building and he's a really great guy. That's different.

I've been going to an office almost every day for 40 years. It may stop in two or three years. I wonder how it will feel.
