A TASTEFUL AND LIGHTHEARTED GATHERING

Faces in the crowd at the Mardi Gras parade. The event is a candy store for a street photographer. Nobody cares about being photographed; after all, they are out on display. In fact, since I'm walking around with a big lens, it is common for groups of people to come up to me and say, "Hey, mister, you want to take our picture?"  Sure. I'll take anybody's picture.                

Dogs In Costumes

It must be silly season. Lots of people in the Soulard Dog Parade had their pets in costumes, one crazier than the next. (Some of the people were pretty out there, too.) These are just a couple of examples. Lots more to edit as time permits.       

Why Do They Dress Like This?

Many people wear eccentric costumes to the Renaissance Festival. When chatting with one of them, Mrs. C mentioned that we attend almost every year. Why don't we wear costumes then? she was asked. I dunno. Never been into costumes.I guess I'm secure enough in my own identity.

There was one shirt for sale, though, that I might try next year.                  

STL Mardi Gras Parade / City Daily Photo Theme Day

It's that time again when the only constraint on St. Louisans' behavior is the temperature. New Orleans blows us away, of course, but we probably have the next biggest Mardi Gras celebration in the US. The parade proceeds from the baseball stadium south to the Soulard neighborhood. Let it all hang out.

My computer tells me that I snapped the shutter 1,117 times in four hours. Half were cut in the first pass. There are some gems among the remainder. Days worth of material, and it works pretty well for the CDP "people in the street" theme day. Click here for pedestrians from around the world.
