What To Do On Friday Night

Landoll Lanes, Marysville, Kansas, on a Friday night. There is a lot of purple, maybe because it's the color of Kansas State University, which is not far down the road. No one is actually bowling, just eating and drinking. That's okay with me. Love the carpet.

The Pridefest Day Parade is today so there should be some fresh material. And NYC on Saturday.

Bowling For Hunger

.
2012 Idiotarod 32

As I mentioned on Sunday, the Idiotarod was held for the benefit of Operation Food Search, a wonderful organization helping to feed St. Louis' hungry. One of the contestants' required activities in support of the cause was to roll a few lines at Flamingo Bowl, downtown's hippest (and only) bowling alley and cocktail lounge. The contest official and Burger King in the middle photo have had quite enough. Perhaps they would prefer to retire to the bar.

If it is of interest, there is a good sized set of Idiotarod photos on Flickr here.

My week of marathon running at work is done. Late afternoon flight to Miami today, where we will spend the night at an airport hotel. On to Liberia, Costa Rica, tomorrow morning and then a 90 minute drive to Tamarindo. Looks like our day trip to Nicaragua will be Monday, not Wednesday. It sounds a little scary but, what the heck, we've been to The Bronx.

Bowl No More

.
Little know factoid about St. Louis: since 1984, we have been home to the International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame. Until Saturday, that is, when it shut its doors. Despite being across the street from the baseball stadium, it had very few visitors. It got no promotion and did nothing to make people aware of it. Some years ago, the Cardinals baseball team took part of the space for its own hall of fame but it wasn't enough. Now, I haven't bowled a line since my son's bowling birthday party when he was about 10, so 2008 - 1990 = a while ago. Although I drive by the place almost every day going to and from work, I set foot inside for the first time on closing day, camera in hand. It was really pretty interesting. Over the next few days we will look at some of the neat stuff inside.

WHAT'S TICKING ME OFF:
the old camera I had modified to shoot infrared doesn't seem to be working right. Everything comes out in shades of red. If I can find the solution to the problem, you'll find out here.

TOMORROW:
women who set 'em up and knock 'em down.

Yet Another Good Reason to Visit St. Louis

My wife and I got into San Juan, Puerto Rico, very late last night, thanks to the mess American Airlines is in. I'll be out with my camera shortly, but for now, you can set 'em up and knock 'em down in our city center. A very modern design for an old passtime.

TOMORROW: ¡Ola de San Juan!
