SORT OF ST. LOUIS PUBLIC SCULPTURE: T REX OF THE TUNDRA

 

Well, I guess it's sculpture of a sort. T Tex here and a triceratops, just out of the frame to the right, stalk Forest Park beside the planetarium. A quick look online suggests that the monster's habitat was subtropical forests and plains in what is now the western U.S. and Canada. It probably wouldn't like our current weather (it was cold-blooded, after all). It is still frigid here but the sun was out Monday and the streets are clear.

Our Internet service seems to be steady again after much in and out. There is a very handy website, https://downdetector.com/, that can give you information and outage maps for most power and online services and has a mobile version. AT&T is still having lots of problems but not so much here.

The City Museum has lots of seasonal spirit. What better way to celebrate  than with a blow-up t rex in a Santa hat and antique pinball machines.               

SNACK

Ellie loves to go to the St. Louis Science Center. It's sort of a science playground for kids. I don't know how much knowledge she absorbs but she dives into it madly.

It has a two-level, semi-animated T. Rex that appears to have just taken a bite out of a triceratops lying at its side. (Did those two creatures exist at the same time?) I'd find it frightening if I were her age but I guess that's how inured children are now to the horrid (a skill that may be very valuable as they grow older). I wasn't frightened by the full-sized models of a T. Rex and brontosaurus in the Museum of Natural History in NY when I was young but they were just statues. No one ever dreamed that monsters could stalk Central Park West until Ghostbusters came out.
