THREE LETTERS

A sculpture in the plaza opposite the baseball stadium, next to the big cards shown yesterday. These letters, in red with white piping and in this typeface, have been part of the Cardinals logo for as long as records exist. STL has been adopted as the city and region's abbreviation for ages. It's the airport code. There are multitudes of websites that use this or that-STL to create a unique URL.  Nobody here misses the point.                

 

WHERE TO NOW?

An iconic logo that comes from the baseball team, seen in a rainy plaza downtown. STL is our abbreviation for our town. It's the airport code. Here, the bright color seems to be vanishing in the mist. Now where for us? No one knows. In the short term, I worry that the packed crowds from all the demonstrations - social distancing be damned - may lead to a surge in Covid-19 cases. In the medium term, I worry about the would-be dictator and his henchmen.       

STL

It's our town's standard abbreviation, like a couple of more famous cities use LA and NYC. The airport code is STL. The initials in exactly this type have been on the Cardinals' caps for a century. It's even something of a motto for this blog.

This is a small plaza in the new part of Ballpark Village. The building in the upper right has luxury apartments. Who in their right mind would would want to live here, especially during a series against the arch-rival Cubs when beer soaked fans roam the area?
