Wandering around Prague in something between drizzle to light rain, a fairly miserable day. We came across this in part of the building where Woofie lived during his time in this city.

STL DPB ON THE ROAD - SOME GUY WHO WROTE WEIRD BOOKS
Out walking around Prague yesterday in the old Jewish Quarter when we happened upon this arresting statue of Franz Kafka. I am at a loss to interpret it (you could probably look it up) but we are wearing ourselves out. Philip Glass wrote an opera on Kafka's book The Trial that we had in STL a few years ago.
First opera of the trip Friday night, Shostakovitch"s Lady Macbeth of Mtensk. OMG, the plot is lurid but I love the music.

STL DPB ON THE ROAD - HOCKEY NIGHT IN CZECHIA
I don't know when these posts are going up in various time zones but I wanted to get something published. We got to Prague Thursday afternoon in the usual state of jet lag. Walked around the corner for dinner on a wet evening. The local cuisine is hearty. Ice hockey is a big deal here and Czech teams do well in international competition.
BTW, Canadians will get the reference in the caption.

WAIT, I THOUGHT I LEFT THERE
I was driving around the South Side of the city the other day looking for anything to shoot. After rounding a corner I was confronted with Slovakian and Czech flags, countries we visited in April. Turns out they were flying over something called the American-Czech Educational Center, new to me. I may return to that but the circus opens tonight and we're taking the kid. They let you take all the pictures you want.

ANOTHER TRAVEL MEMORY - CESKY KRUMLOV
Another Central Europe memory, although there are some local things to shoot this weekend if my spine holds out. This is a cold, drizzly day at a cafe in Cesky Krumlov, with no one out for coffee and treats. The old town in southern Czechia, https://www.amazingczechia.com/destinations/cesky-krumlov/ , is the second most visited in the country after Prague.

A DAY LATE AND A KORUNA SHORT
I'm bloody exhausted so maybe I'll add to this on the bus to Germany tomorrow. We passed by the hall where the Prague Symphony plays. Leonard Slatkin, who was music director of the St. Louis Symphony for many years and is now conductor laureate, was conducting the orchestra for two nights immediately before we arrived. The koruna, or crown, is the unit of Czech currency. Plans to join the eurozone are in progress.
