Three generations of us got together for dinner Saturday night at the home of my daughter and son-in-law, Emily and Brian. We brought ingredients and Brian, a professional chef, presided in the kitchen.
Early evening snacks included chips and guacamole. Madeleine, now almost 15 months old, was not acquainted with the concept. Mrs. C and I thought it was brilliant that Emily gave her a little plate and bowl of the stuff and let her just dive in. New sensations! She was so delighted that she offered to share one with daddy in the bottom picture. You wouldn't refuse that, would you?

I love it when kids are given the opportunity to eat new things. My grandson loves avocados plain, though he's not averse to a good guacamole.
Charming photos.
So cute, I absolutely love the photo at the bottom, it's so triumphal.
A new food connoisseur is born.
Adorable photos! Letting Madeleine explore it in her own way is great. Too many parents constantly fuss over baby making a mess. They're babies. They're supposed to get messy sometimes.
Yippppeeee!
Well she looks like she's having fun!
It's not easy being green... sorry Bob someone had to say it :) Madeleine looks like she's thoroughly enjoying the avocado experience, thank goodness because it's so yummy and good for her.. I believe Pax has taken a liking to it also.. I saw her face covered in a lot of things when we were there, but I missed the green :)
New tastes to explore and having fun, that's brilliant!
Oh yes, perfection!
Gosh! I remember these days.
One of my sisters used to say that I ought to sit in the tub and eat. I guess I was a little bit like Madeleine way back when. I'm sure she will see this photo a few years from now and remember it all her life like I did with a similar snap.
Oh precious images of a fun experience. It reminds me of my twins when I brought them up in Tahiti. Given the warm temperature I started letting them deal with feeding themselves on their own very early. I'd sit them on little plastic chairs at their plastic table on our outdoor terrace, put the food in front of them and let them deal with it. The effect was very similar to this and meals were a very pleasant experience for them. After the meal I'd hose the terrace, chairs and table down and dump the kids into a bath. I have great memories of this very care free approach to eating. If I may, I'll add that they have very good table manners today. It came later :)
