PROTEST THEOLOGY

 

In general, I think that mixing religion and politics creates a volatile brew. Your reaction may depend on whether you support or oppose the point being made this way, but in either case rational analysis suffers. Using religion with satire is maybe not so bad.                 

POLITICAL OPINION

 

Seen along the route to my granddaughter’s school. The vehicle never moves. Note the license plate. Personalized plates are cheap in Missouri. Interpret as you will.                         

THE ALL-SEEING EYE(S)

 

Seen at an annual outdoor religious event that draws photographers as well as the devout. I think that's a Canon camera strap. More will be revealed after tomorrow's City Daily Photo theme day.

ASH WEDNESDAY: DIES IRAE

 

People from this group (they are always men) appear at the Mardi Gras parade every year. They flank a main street where revelers stream into the parade and party area. I have never seen anyone from the crowd interact with them. No other comment. The images speak for themselves.              

Difference of Opinion

In Mexico, Cinco de Mayo is a relatively minor observance, marking a victory of the local armies over the French, the erstwhile colonial power, in 1852. In the United States it has become a big deal, a celebration of Mexican-American culture and a perfectly good reason to drink tequila in the street on a blazing hot afternoon. In St. Louis the party was held on la Siete de Mayo for commercial reasons. Swilling tequila at work on a Thursday is often frowned upon.  

Daughter Emily, Madeleine and I went down with cameras. Of course everyone is welcome and may express themselves if done in a peaceful manner. In this case, however, thesis and antithesis will not lead to synthesis. Hegel loses out on Cherokee Street.

An iPhone picture taken yesterday on I 64. The question is not specified. I wonder how people around here would react if the text on the truck said "There is no God but God and Muhammad is his prophet," or, more simply and from farther east, "Desire Causes Suffering"?
