WINTER LIGHT

It has gotten quite cold here by our standards. Days are short but it gives us light llke golden hour most of the day. This is one of the two buildings in our major park left from the 1904 World's Fair. We had the Olympics the same year. We used to be somebody.              

WINTER GOLF

It's  common for me to go out shooting on Christmas afternoon. Neither of us are from here and our sibs are scattered around. One of our two children is here and, of course, the redoubtable Ellie. Our other child and his family are hundreds of miles away. The city is quiet, of course, but there are things to note. On Saturday the sky was sort of clear but hazy, and with the low winter sun everything had a soft warmth.           

The Quality of Light

Light from the outside can have such an impact on indoor photography. Lucha has large windows, nearly floor to ceiling, facing north. The light couldn't be more beautiful on a winter afternoon, although I probably used a little fill flash. Not that I am comparing my work but this kind of illumination is used so beautifully by Vermeer and most dramatically by Caravaggio. When taking run-and-gun pictures, we have to make use of every advantage.
