Sado Island, off Niigata in the Sea of Japan, was once a remote place of exile. Being sent there was the harshest punishment the shogunate could dispense short of death. It's now a lovely place of tourism and the culture of premium rice. We had a rental car - I drove in Japan and lived to tell the tale. Well, it's not like I did it in Tokyo.Speaking of which, on Monday we're back to the capital for one last night and them home Tuesday. It's been a long time very far from home.
