OUT THERE POLITICS, PART 2 OF 2

I pulled up behind this big SUV at a stoplight and happened to have my camera on the seat beside me. There's more to it than you can see in this low-res version. The red sticker in the bottom center of the window has an outline of Santa and two reindeer with the words Sleighin' Libs. The upper left has a cartoon of an elephant, a symbol of the Republican Party with an assault rifle in its trunk and the words Raised Right. Upper right is a cartoon of Trump in red, white and blue with both middle fingers raised. Lower right has a sticker that says Republicans - Working Like Crazy To Support The Lazy (!). The sticker in the lower left is mostly illegible but has the words We The People, the opening phrase of the U.S. Constitution, in its iconic script.

 

It frightened me. I was not about to cut this person off on the road.

        

The Lonliest Guys in Town

There aren't a lot of Republicans in the City of St. Louis proper. I think every single elective office is held by a Democrat. On the other hand, they have lots of colleagues in the suburbs and surrounding rural areas. The state government is very far right wing. (Well, if it's any consolation, neighbouring Kansas is worse.) Now, it is a completely personal opinion but I think that this group, in its current form, is allied with the forces of darkness. Haven't they read Matthew 19:24 or 19:21? The party of Abrahan Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt and Dwight Eisenhower wasn't like what exists today.  

Afternoon update: I just came across this. You can see what you think if you have the time. Some of you will agree and some will think I/we are idiots.    

Friends Of The Maytag Repairman

Americans, except for the very young, remember the famous TV ads featuring the Maytag repairman. The idea was that he was lonely because no one ever called him, ostensibly because Maytag appliances were so dependable.

Well, there are not a lot of Republicans in the City of St. Louis. (Much of the rest of the state is a different story.) Their table at the Hispanic Festival gets about as many visits as the Maytag repairman. They are certainly enthusiastic, out expressing their point of view, surrounded by posters for candidates there is zero chance I will vote for and flags of Latin American nations (me gusta mucho Costa Rica y Argentina).

But note the Trump poster and then the Mexican flag on the table. Cognitive dissonance?          

Lonely

There are cities in this country that are very heavily Republican, like Mesa, Arizona, and Colorado Springs. Probably anywhere in Orange County, California, most of Texas and 90% of Alabama. And then there are places where it's really hard to find them: Boston, San Francisco, four of the five boroughs of New York and, um here. In the city, that is. The suburbs are mixed.

I've moved on to our Hispanic Festival. We don't have a big Spanish-speaking population but it's enthusiastic. These partisans, though, were not getting a lot of visitors and you could question their strategy. Given the statements of this year's Republican candidates, registering Hispanic voters could get more votes for Hillary.
