MADELEINE MONDAY

There were family events here this weekend for the Mexican holiday that takes place on November 1 and 2, joyfully celebrating the lives of those who are no longer with us. The kid always goes for the face painting but she was a little unsure about the meaning and the language involved. Someone asked her yesterday what the design was about. She said it was from Dia de los Geckos.

MADELEINE MONDAY

Pictures will go back and forth for a while between the People's Joy Parade and the Cinco de Mayo festival.

Ellie likes face painting but often what's available is very basic. However, at the festival we met an extraordinary makeup artist, Debra Filipelli, https://www.facebook.com/debrafilipellic/photos?lst=842012312%3A1063685161%3A1557090501 . Her range of skills is exceptional.

The kid loved it. She wanted her mom to text her teacher and ask if she could wear it to school on Monday. Um, no.

Madeleine Monday

The People's Joy Parade, featured here many times before, takes place literally around the Cinco de Mayo festival. I've never seen anything like it. Just goofy, fun-loving local people marching down the street doing whatever amuses them. There are some regular features, though, like the more than slightly scary clowns, the beat up old Cadillac that's rigged to shoot jets of fire high into the air and face painting for little kids. Madeleine wanted a piece of that action.
