The Earth Day Festival returned to Forest Park yesterday. It gets bigger (and more crowded) every year. Every wheat grass muncher, chakra cleanser, jute sandal wearer, soul traveler, wolf caller, recycler, metaphysician, circle drummer and Ph.D. herbalist in the metro area must have been there. And a couple of chiropractors, too. Me, I'm a double-blind, peer-reviewed study kind of guy when it comes to what's good for me, but there sure were some interesting people to meet.
These are just some first impressions. Top, a new member of the local faerie troop, or at least new to me. She knows how to model. More about them to come. Below, an area called the Peace Garden. I don't think the woman was an Official Faerie because she wasn't wearing wild makeup but she could bliss out even with a bus behind her. Next, one of the many products for sale, although proper soap, such as is found in my bathroom, comes from a factory and is sold by a corporation. Bottom, St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay is surrounded by faeries after officially opening the festivities. I hope they lightened his spirit.

Like last year, I found a group of faeries flittering through Forest Park during the Earth Day festivities. They were young and old, mostly but not exclusively women, and stayed completely in character when they spoke to me. If you would like to become a very disoriented 21st Century technically savvy person, go to your local major urban park and chat for a while with faeries who play it completely straight. Oberon and Titania must have been held up by Sunday's rain but it was completely charming. Could a photographer play Puck?
Still another photo of the faeries at the Renaissance Faire. (I guess it's natural for faeries to hang out at faires, for orthographic reasons if nothing else). I posted this for a couple of purposes. It's sort of a sweet, tender image. It also illustrates Bob's Photography Conservation System. Sometimes I get a shot with decent composition but I don't like how the color looks. Thanks to the magic of the Black and White Adjustment Layer tool in Photoshop, those pictures often look good converted to monochrome. This is an example. Digital photography must be holy because it forgives many sins.
They prefer this spelling. They hang out in the woods. They have day jobs and dress differently. It would be nice if they could grant me three wishes.
