Red, White and Blue

Well, pretty close. A bit of bright color we get downtown every sunny late afternoon at the corner of Broadway and Pine. 200 North Broadway is the most interesting modern office building in the neighborhood. That's a sliver of 100 North Broadway on the right.

Geez, I gotta start packing.      

Evening Commute

I don't have any new material but I have a smart phone and two eyes. And so another late departure from work. Swing out of St. Charles Street and down Broadway to the highway entrance. Of course I drive. This is middle-size city America. If I took public transportation the trip would be three times longer.    

A song lyric by the incumbent Nobel laureate for literature has it that the sun's not yellow, it's chicken.

A Touch of France

I am so low on material that I have to resort to phone cam shots from my office window. This one got some interest on Flickr. It looks north on Broadway and I 70 during a thunderstorm. The domed stadium without a football team is on the left and the Four Seasons Hotel on the right.

The hotel has a strange LED system on that brick fin that sticks out of it. It's usually illuminated at night but this was midday. This was taken on July 7 so why is it, so to speak, flying the French flag a week before le quatorze Juillet? I dunno. Maybe it's a test.

The next two weeks at work are awful. I'll post as often as I can.     

What Surplus?

Not balance of payments. We have a big deficit there. Same for the federal budget. On the other hand, we have an enormous excess of questionable things to eat. The country has a big surplus of burgers, fries, chips, cola with high fructose corn syrup, Ding Dongs, Cap'n Crunch, corn dogs, Cheesy Poofs, chicken wings, fried pies, cheap pizza, pancakes 'n' butter, Velveeta and baloney. And you can super size that. One could go on.

I wonder what's inside. Maybe nothing. Couldn't tell if this building was abandoned or not.

This was found on an empty stretch of North Broadway in the quiet of Stupid Bowl Sunday. Dinner at Aya Sofia was terrific and we certainly recommend it. And I hear New York won the game. Olivier is happy, although I bet he was up most of the night in front of a television.

Missouri Gospel Announcers Guild

Taken in a desolate block of North Broadway. What do they mean, gospel announcers? I thought that's what preachers do. But the logo has a picture of a phonograph record and a microphone. Was this about gospel radio stations? How is it there are, or were, so many of them here in modest Missouri that they needed to organize? Why would gospel announcers feel the need to organize?

The building looked vacant to me but it turns out they are still very much in business. The letters GMWA puzzled me until My Friend Google told me that it stands for Gospel Music Workshop of America. So amen, brother.

Another interesting find along this small section of North Broadway. I took this picture on a Saturday when no one was around and nothing was going on. No clues about what actually hapens here. I can't decide if this is eco-friendly or a toxic pit. What's your guess about who is trading what for what?

Crystal Grill

Well, there wasn't much enthusiasm for yesterday's picture of city life. So let's go a couple of blocks down Broadway and change to color. I never heard of this place before. It's not even listed in our town's exhaustive web directory of restaurants. It is obviously in business and makes its living on three hours trade a day. If you zoom in on the red-on-yellow sign to the right of the door, it says "Open 11 AM to 2 PM." I'd like to go there for lunch.

The Crystal has great design. I love the decorative framing on the top and sides, and way the whole facade slides down the grade from left to right.

I'm heading for Washington, DC, this afternoon on business. There's some extra time built in for me to walk around the District with my camera. Good chance some results will show up here.
