Well, sort of. the Arch is in the picture although it's not what the picture is about.
Sometimes I get desperate for blog fodder. This isn't that big a city, most of the suburbs are a snore and there are few street events in the winter. As someone, maybe Frank Zappa, said, necessity is the mother of invention. Gotta wrack my brain for stupid photo tricks.
So I went out to shoot light trails. Simple if you know the recipe. These were taken in a trashy corner where I 55 goes up a ramp and onto a bridge over the river, heading for Chicago. On a tripod, of course, ISO 100, f 22 and a -3 stop ND filter. The top exposure was 20 seconds and the bottom one 25.
Came out pretty cool, if I do say so myself. That's a private dinner excursion train, not Amtrak, on the trestle in the top picture. I opened the shutter before the front of the train got to the Arch so the legs sort of show through.

Not that many people are doing this experiences. In your case they performed extremely well. Good for you.
ReplyDeleteI have taken similar photos when I have felt like you did here, but I need to buy me a ND-filter.
ReplyDeleteI like doing this a lot!
ReplyDeleteCreative choices, Bob! I like the result.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean about blog fodder. While I was sick this past month, I attacked my archives... Like your shots. Need to practice more of these.
ReplyDeleteIt has to be hard working as hard as you do and still getting out there to take photos when the larder is empty.
ReplyDeleteVery cool Bob, lot's of elements to make up this image. I must get a bit more experimental also :)
ReplyDeleteBob! I'm a Crystal City, MO, native who lives in NYC and who follows your blog daily. Stop selling yourself--and the Lou--short! Just go sit in the parking lot of your neighborhood Schnuck's (or WHATEVER) and people-watch! Never mind what makes St Louis distinct from other locales, just photograph what makes St Louisans HUMAN... there's your blog material right thurr!!
