We went to the home of our daughter, Emily, her husband, Brian, and Madeleine on Halloween night. There are lots of kids in their city neighborhood and few in ours in the suburbs. The weather had turned suddenly cold and there were not many callers. Father and daughter sat on the front steps, waiting to hand out the sugar.
Some people in this country go crazy at Halloween. I don't remember anything like this when I was growing up in New York. We put on some minimal disguise, then went from door to door in the local apartment buildings and demanded sweets. It's so elaborate now and so fixed on pretending terror is entertainment. I totally don't get it.

ReplyDeleteA lot of great pumpkin artists around your place. Strange enough we have also a party were the kids with lanterns in the evening comes for candy after singing a song. Its called St. Maarten and it is on 11 november. Just as the difference between Sint Nicolaas ( 5 december) and Santa Claus ( 25 december).
ReplyDeleteSome American dude who moved to Stockholm have arranged a Halloween parade for a couple of years now so it is getting more popular over here now.
ReplyDeleteShe doesn't quite seem to know what to make of Jack O'Lanterns! By next year that'll be different.
ReplyDeleteI'm amazed at the magic light in these shots. Absolutely gorgeous, Bob!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cutie!
ReplyDeleteM is such a cutie, Bob. I always enjoyed Halloween and seeing all of the kids who visited out house in a near-in suburb. Unfortunately, our part of Naples is an old folks place, so there are no trick-or-treaters. (And, artistically carved punkins!)
