The Big Show

Scoreboard 1

St. Louis is beginning to boil with excitement. The baseball World Series resumes here tonight after a split of the first two games between the Boston Red Sox and our beloved Cardinals in Massachusetts. Souvenir stands and the first few scalpers are popping up in the streets around Busch Stadium.

The Cardinals won the championship in 2011 and 2006. We made the Series in 2004 but got blasted by Boston. Considering that there are 30 teams in Major League Baseball, that's quite a record. The family is going to the game tomorrow night, including Madeleine, the rally baby.

It may be a bit arrogant to call the U.S. baseball championship the World Series. The game is played to a high standard in Japan, Korea, the Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and other countries. Why, there is even a baseball field in Evry, France, although I cannot attest to the quality of play.

  1. These next 3 will determine a lot. One of us will probably take 2. First two determined bigtime by errors. Pretty much out of the ordinary for these two teams. They usually don't beat themselves. Two interesting games though.

  2. I'll be there too -- leaving shortly from Memphis. I am stoked! I'll look for your camera at the pep rally.

  3. I know the game in Japanese is played at a pretty high level...

    Have fun at the game!

  4. I will be following the avenging of 2004 very closely. My heart still aches from the loss of the 1968 World Series to Detroit, which we could have rectified if Detroit had beaten Boston.

Baseball is not played in Costa RIca, but it is played next door in Nicaragua.

  6. Well, Bob, your guys are leading 2 - 1 going into the bottom of the fifth as I write this. My guys need to find someone to hit in the clutch! I nominate either Pedroia or Big Papi.
