Shall We Dance?

.
Hispanic Festival 2012-09-08 13

Latin rhythms are infectious. Who can sit still? I once saw Tito Puente, the King of Latin Music, and his band play at The Blue Note in NYC. It was so stirring I may have bobbed my Anglo head from side to side. I was surprised, though, how few people ventured into the dance area during the time I was shooting at the Hispanic Festival. I'm more of a lurker, a voyeur at these events.

The man dancing mano a mano in the second picture takes a good portrait. I wondered if he was channeling Jimi Hendrix. The young guys with better haircuts than me (well, just better hair) in the last picture are Mormon missionaries having a bit of lunch. I didn't see them interacting with the crowd. Wonder what they do for fun?

  3. I don't think they have much fun. Ever. The dancing guy will stand out in any crowd.

  4. Some life situations set you free, others are just a jail sentence.

  5. I'm a bit of a head bobber myself Bob, and toe tapper!! Super portrait shot, and yes it's pretty hard to imagine these two young men swiveling anything to the music..but we could be wrong!!

  6. The first three people look like they have real character about them.

Our Mormon subjects... not so much.

I'm pretty much blacklisted by Salt Lake City, I think. Had a Mormon housemate who moved out a few days after I remarked to an elder about the similarities between the Mormon church and the Mafia.
