The remarkable Cinderella Building on Cherokee Street has an over-the-top terra cotta facade and a somewhat murky past. Sources suggest it opened in 1906 as a roller rink and, perhaps simultaneously, a movie theater. Someone bought the near-derelict structure in 2014 with plans for renovation but I don't see anything happening.
One of St. Louis' leading architectural preservationists, Chris Nafzinger, had a post about its beautiful details on his blog a ways back. Beauty and economic success are not always partners. Golden slippers are hard to come by in the inner city.
I think this was one of the early Wehrenberg theaters....
ReplyDeleteA remarkable looking building. Hopefully it will be taken care of.
ReplyDeleteHopefully something positive is done with it. It looks well worth the effort.
ReplyDeleteIt's a beauty! Hope it gets saved.
ReplyDeleteHere's a link to the rft article with more info and a "before" photo. Been a while since 2014, so I hope the owner is keeping it maintained since the full reno seems slow going.
