'How do you think he does it?
I don't know!
What makes him so good?'
Ain't got no distractions
Can't hear no buzzers and bells,
Don't see no lights a-flashin'
Plays by sense of smell.
Always gets a replay,
Never seen him fall. That deaf, dumb and blind kid

Ah, pinball. Many a youthful hour was spent refining my eye-hand coordination at these devices. I met Mrs. C over a pinball machine in a bar on St. Patrick's Day. I was almost late for my last final exam in law school because my best friend and I had 23 free games racked up on our favorite table while drilling one another on the exceptions to the hearsay rule.
It's been a long time since I played. This bar on Cherokee Street has some tables. I love the beautiful simplicity of the neon sign, a ball, a flipper and a single word. Nothing else needed.
Weirdly, back to Charlotte, North Carolina today. Overnight there and then onward for some time off. Mañana por la noche vamos a hablar español. Fotografías de Domingo.
I guess they will forever have a special place in your hart. I played a lot myself as a kid at a local cafe in Tungelsta. The cafe is still there but the pinball machines are long gone.
ReplyDeletePool shark huh?
ReplyDeleteThere's a place in my neighbourhood that has pinball and arcade machines. I've never gone in.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the break!
Thanks Bob. Now I'm singing that song and will do so all evening...
ReplyDeleteIf you are in Las Vegas, you might want to check out the Pinball Museum/Hall of Fame.
ReplyDeleteSee here.
Great photo today. Well captured and a fine memorable tale of budding romance. You were a wizard!
ReplyDeleteI used to enjoy pinball, though it was not an obsessive interest and I wasn't especially good at it.
ReplyDeleteCosta Rica by way of Charlotte? I didn"t expect that.
