Automatic weapons. On the street. In downtown St. Louis. Do you remember the Beatles' song Happiness Is a Warm Gun, with John Lennon's goat bleat of a voice crying bang bang shoot shoot? We all remember how John Lennon died.
There was a gun rights demonstration yesterday that began in Citygarden, surrounded by art. According to the event's Facebook page (taken down by the time of this writing) the purpose was “to raise awareness of the right to keep and bear arms under the Federal and Missouri State Constitutions.” Children were welcome but, as the FB page put it, "unarmed, of course."
You can carry a concealed weapon in this state if you have a permit. That's so in a lot if not most of America. Apparently you can carry it right out on your hip. And you can openly carry an assault rifle down Market Street.
There was a counter-demonstration. We will see more of this.

If you think you have to carry a gun, well I don't agree, but at least I get it, but an assault rifle?
ReplyDeleteNice, crisp photos of the outward appearance of modern guns. Their wicked cruelty is belied by the determined but benign faces of those carrying the protest signs, notice the crispness of the sign supports as opposed to the older wooden stick. the separation of the shown and the unshown in both the nature of firearms and the nature of protest signs speaks to the ability to compartmentalize thinking so that owning and openly carrying deadly weapons is almost made a well considered idea.
ReplyDeleteSad, but amazing.
Madness. From the outside looking in, it sometimes seems like America's being held hostage by this mentality.
ReplyDeleteFor all the NRA and their brethren go on and on about the Second Amendment, they seem to totally disregard the portion about well regulated.
Magnífico blog con bellos trabajos por lo que te felicito.

Frightening.
ReplyDeleteYour comments and John's above are quite appropriate.
You are free to think whatever you want, but these are not "automatic" weapons. People tend to see guns such as these and think "machine gun." But, they are not.
