I'm stuck on this black and white stuff. This tow boat, pushing a huge barge upriver, is bright white with brilliant red lettering. It's fun, though to craft images with only shape, line and tonality, giving up all the cues that color provides. For most of the history of photography this was all we had. I think too many shooters have forgotten it.
The boat shines in the middle of your scene.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was in high school in St. Louis County, I was a Sea Scout. Our troop had 2 sailboats that we kept just above Alton Lock & Dam 26. We stayed way clear of the tow boats.
ReplyDeleteForget about the rule that sailboats have the right of way over power boats. It could take the tow boats more than a half mile to stop.
I agree. Good point to remember about the art. What a grand history!
ReplyDeleteThere is almost a forgotten beauty in B&W.
ReplyDeleteTake away the power lines and this could easily be a shot from a century ago. Excellent capture!
ReplyDeleteI've always loved black and white images, Robert Doisneau's street scenes in b & W make my heart race :) As for Robert Capa, incredible!

ReplyDeleteYou can keep 'em coming as far as I'm concerned.
ReplyDeleteI should be in Paris at those dates, but I'll be at work. Now why must you leave on a Saturday????? A Saturday in Versailles would have been great (you've already spent a day with O. in Evry so now it's my turn! :-)) I'll try to work something out...
