More Street Portraits, Joyful Or Not

People's Joy Parade 2013 4

Characters. Character. Everyone at the People's Joy Parade struts and frets their hour upon the stage. I think the top pic is one of the best street portraits I've ever made. Your results may vary.

  1. It is a beautiful portrait but sad. I wonder why.

  2. Yes a beautiful portrait. Is the face sad or just serious? It's hard to say. Could be just a flicking split second before a new burst of laughter or a freekingly joyous pose, we don't know...

It's an excellent portrait I agree. The one thing I would have photoshopped is the lamp post in the background. It draws a dark line in the background that lands straight on the character's head and alters the dynamics of the composition. I would have used the cloning tool to delete it and rebuild the tree branches around it in its place. On some of my photos I occasionally do that when a feature doesn't suit my eye.

  3. When I lived in St. Louis in the 1960's, I never saw anything like this.

  5. Brilliant series of portraits Bob, so many fantastic photo opportunities here! I did enjoy your first portrait here, but I enjoyed the frivolity of the others just as much..

  6. Certainly a lot of character in these faces, Bob. That first one is particularly enigmatic.
