One of the major events on the St. Louis photo calendar happens this weekend, The Great Forest Park Balloon Race. This year is the 40th anniversary. Wow - I showed up in this burgh for college 45 years ago and wasn't very aware of it until I caught the photography virus.
The actual race is today. The Friday night event is the balloon glow. They stay tethered to the ground but repeatedly fire their burners to make a spectacular show after sunset. Much more of last night's and today's events to come. Note the little sign on the balloon in the bottom picture.
The balloons that shine trough are the most beautiful at night.Pity there are no more on picture two. Great spot to take pictures.
ReplyDeleteWe had a balloon festival here earlier in the month. It always draws a lot of people to the area.
ReplyDeleteHow pretty!
ReplyDeleteI like your first image, Bob. There is a balloon event a couple of towns away from here, but I have not attended in more than three decades.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant shots Bob, I seem to remember you covered this event last year..isn't it amazing how time flies.. Love the little 'thanks dad' tag on this bottom shot.
ReplyDeleteI can hear the burners just by looking at your photos.
