Life On The Mississippi

.
The Tom Sawyer On The Mississippi

The Mississippi is not a beautiful river, at least not around here. Nothing like the Hudson with its big rolling hills or the Colorado with its gorges. It's pretty flat from here to the Gulf of Mexico. It actually looks more interesting from the air, with twists and curls like a tortuous artery.

And an artery it is. Whether it's the Tom Sawyer taking tourists to its berth beneath the Arch or the enormous barges that carry bulk freight through the center of this country, the Mississippi is this city's reason for being.

Still no portal. It's been more than two weeks. Anyone know what's going on?

  3. We have a similar looking paddle wheeler. It's used for sightseeing tours but I don't think it's as wide as the Tom Sawyer. I always feel it looks out of place in Vancouver.

  4. I had an exchange with Eric of PDP about the portal. It was hacked - badly - to the point where it has to be rebuilt from scratch. He's got a couple of young guys working on it but since it's a labor of love he can't be too demanding about the deadline. He says he's got good reports about the project moving forward though.

  5. In my sailing days my husband and I had contemplated sailing down the mississipi on our 30-foot sailboat. I'm glad we didn't, we probably would have been bored. Instead we sailed from the Bahamas to Beaufort NC and from there did a second long crossing to Boston, explored Maine and then sailed down to NYC and from there through the Delaware and the intra-coastal waterways to Florida and the Bahamas again. A 7-month fun adventure !

  7. I agree with Ciel, it does look like a warm hazy day Bob. The Mississippi (now that's a lot of ssss's) may not be the most attractive river, but it's definitely the river of many a tale!!
